Christmas Activity for EFL classrooms. Περνάμε χαρούμενα Χριστούγεννα στην τάξη!

Here's an activity for the very last lesson of the year. Cheer your young learners up
and create some cherishable memories!

Christmas Unscramble and Draw

Supplies :

Two stockings, some wrapped candy, index cards, coloured pencils.

Preparation:

Prepare the index cards before the lesson.
1. Make a list of some words and phrases related to Christmas. For example, Santa Claus, Christmas tree, reindeer, chimney ...
2. Scramble them on a piece of paper.
3. Write one scrambled word or phrase on each card.
4. Leave the back side of the card blank.
5. Make two decks out of the index cards.

How to play:

1. Divide your students into two groups and give each group a deck and some coloured pencils.
2. Place one stocking in front of each team's desk.
3. Explain the instructions:
For each deciphered card the team must draw an image of the word on the blank side of the card. Then, as a reward, the team gets some wrapped candy thrown into their stocking (by the teacher).
The first team to finish their deck of cards gets the rest of the candy the teacher has brought.

You can also hand out a pictionary worksheet of the words so as to assign some playful homework for the holidays. Enjoy the laughter and the excitement and don't get tempted to blame yourself for not getting your students so engaged when teaching grammar, it's Christmas!
